How to Hydrate Your Skin All Winter Long

Posted by Yvonne on Dec 15, 2011 in Retreat Services, Skincare

skincareThe cold season has arrived here at Avalon so we wanted to share some tried and true ways to help you keep your skin healthy and hydrated this coming winter.

As beautiful as our winters can be here in New England, they can also cause long-term effects on your skin’s natural resources and ability to heal. Follow these easy tips to enhance your skin care regimen during the winter months.

  • Drink at least 6 glasses of water daily while cutting back on coffee, soda and alcohol.
  • Only use mild exfoliating techniques such as loofahs or body sponges.
  • Use face and body scrub exfoliates sparingly. Try to avoid alcohol-based products as they eliminate moisture from your skin.
  • Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize! Invest in all natural moisturizers to help you saturate dehydrated skin.
  • Supplement your diet with Vitamin E and collagen capsules. These will help your skin hold moisture and elasticity, resulting in healthier, more hydrated skin.
  • Hot water robs your skin of its natural moisture so try to use lukewarm water instead.
  • Never scratch or irritate dehydrated or dry skin as it can result in dry spots and skin abrasions.
  • Avoid extreme cold or extreme heat as both affect your skin’s ability to repair itself.

Benefits of Paraffin Treatments

Posted by Yvonne on Nov 30, 2011 in Retreat Services, Skincare, Specials and offerings, relaxation therapy

paraffin

Paraffin wax therapy has been around since ancient Roman times. Its uses are varied but many people enjoy how it refreshes and softens the skin. It is a deeply relaxing experience and a great way to treat dry hands and feet.

Paraffin wax is known to speed healing and soothe pain in joints and muscles. It is an effective and safe way to remove dead skin cells, increase circulation, moisturize dry skin and help alleviate the symptoms of eczema, psoriasis and other skin conditions.  In addition, it is used to lessen the pain associated with arthritis, fibromyalgia, muscle spasms and chronic pain conditions.

Paraffin is wonderful at moisturizing your skin because of its ability to form a protective waterproof coating on your skin, helping your body retain its natural oils.

Pamper yourself this holiday season with one of our hand and foot paraffin massage treatments.  Visit our special offers page or contact us for more details.

A peek inside: Introducing Nimue “Lady of the Lake”

Posted by Yvonne on Oct 29, 2011 in About Avalon, General, Retreat Services, Specials and offerings

Barn Board CabinHere at Avalon we are home to some of our area’s oldest and most unique cabins.  We want to introduce you to our beautiful dwellings and tell you a little about the history of each one. We will highlight each of our special cabins in upcoming blog posts.

In today’s post, we want to introduce you to our Nimue, which means “Lady of the Lake.”

This cabin was built in 1997 from trees that were grown on this property. Nimue has a nine foot window overlooking the lake and loft that will sleep two in intimate comfort.

My father loved to stay in this cabin and left behind a gift for others to enjoy. It is a carving of a wood spirit originating from Germany. It is believed that only the pure at heart can see the spirits in the trees.

Avalon hosts meditation with Tibetan bowls

Posted by Yvonne on Oct 26, 2011 in Events, Uncategorized, relaxation therapy

Tibetan bowls

Looking for a natural alternative for relaxation and pain relief? The healing powers of Tibetan Bowls may be the answer.  Come learn how sound vibrations created by singing bowls can decrease stress, reduce pain and promote healing at our November 5th session from 12-4 p.m. Expert Tanji Samson will lead us in our meditative journey.

Modern medicine has proven our brains respond to different frequencies when in the various states of consciousness and unconsciousness. By using Tibetan singing bowls to create vibrational sound we can gently alter and improve our brain state.

In this class you will learn:

  • Sound vibration theory
  • The history of the singing bowls
  • How to buy a bowl
  • Caring for your bowl
  • Playing the bowls
  • Personal healing therapies
  • Using crystals with the bowls

If you have your own bowls feel free to bring it with you. If you don’t have a bowl, come anyway as we have bowls you can borrow.

Contact Avalon for more information or to sign up for the class. We hope to see you there!

The Power of Tibetan Healing Bowls

Posted by Yvonne on May 15, 2011 in Events

Here is a guest blog post from Tanji Samson.

Greetings! It’s spring and with it comes new beginnings, as well as new opportunities.  I have teamed up with Yvonne and Avalon to offer a new series of workshops entitled, “Ancient Modalities Series: Tibetan Healing Bowls.” Yvonne is so committed to introducing new workshops and modalities so I was thrilled that she invited my company, Heartsong Intuitive Energy Healing, to create a new series for Avalon’s customers and friends.

As a certified hands-on energy healer, I am committed to helping people relieve stress, pain and anxiety while staying in a deep state of relaxation. The Tibetan Healing Bowls workshops are designed to help you relax and forget about the hustle and bustle of the outside world, using the sound of bowls, bells and gongs. The workshop is a guided meditation of sound and vibration, which will resonate deeply throughout your whole being.

This workshop will give you the opportunity to see how sound and vibration from the healing bowls help to relieve stress, pain and anxiety while staying in a deep state of relaxation.  You will be able to experience meditation and healing in the unique and spiritual surroundings of Avalon.  This retreat center is located in a serene, peaceful and loving area with a beautiful view; it is a perfect location for our meditative journey.

I feel blessed that the Avalon family has welcomed me into this wonderful place.  I look forward to experiencing the wonderful world of Tibetan bowls and the tranquility of Avalon with all of you.

How can massage therapy and reiki benefit you?

Posted by Yvonne on Mar 28, 2011 in Massage therapy, Self Improvement, Uncategorized

This is a guest post from our amazingly talented massage therapist and reiki master Julie Corey.

By Julie Corey

Hello and Happy Spring! In March, we will offer a workshop in Power Animal Journeying with the three foot Mother Drum, on Thursday, March 31. This is an opportunity to connect us all with our power animal guides via the sonic driver of the drum, for the purpose of guidance, wisdom and strength. Contact us if are interested in attending.

It is a joy spending time with Yvonne and the Avalon family, as well as to have been graced with the beauty of the land, the stones, the trees, and the water here at our beautiful retreat. Some of the workshops I teach include:

  • Reiki 1 course and certification
  • Introduction to the Rings of Oden
  • Introduction to Flower Essence Therapy
  • Introduction to West African hand drumming

On a daily basis, I practice massage therapy at Avalon, as well as a session called, “Rings & Reiki,” which is designed to help you attune your energy and alignment. It is a powerful and useful treatment for any of us living on this busy planet.

I have been serving the New Hampshire community in the healing arts since 1994, when I completed my certification at the New Hampshire Institute for Therapeutic Arts in Hudson, NH.  I have worked in many different places along the years, including health clubs, hospitals, corporations, schools, and public spas. My forte, is that I understand the body well, and can help an individual bring their body back into alignment and near perfect balance.

As we all now know, preventative therapies serve us well in the long run. Holistic modalities are more mainstream than ever before and the concepts of “holistic” and “wellness” will stay part of our culture for many years to come.

I hope that you will join us at Avalon for treatments and workshops designed to refresh, renew, and help you maximize your highest and best potential and vitality. I look forward to meeting you.

Blessings!  Julie Corey, LMT, Reiki Master Teacher

Alaya Chadwick & The Wisdom Way

Posted by Yvonne on Oct 20, 2010 in Self Improvement

I have spent years and countless money attending self-improvement workshops, empowerment lectures, and reading book after book; all of these dedicated to self-empowerment, self-improvement, and finding the wholeness within.  They always left me feeling as though there was more to it.  I always struggled to implement their ideas: love yourself, relax, let go of it, etc.  These feelings would always come back.

Then I met Alaya.  Alaya Chadwick has created a map that works every time, anytime, and anywhere. I attended Alaya’s workshop, and since then, my life has changed.  The Whole Point Institute and the Wisdom Way has helped me figure out ME.

By integrating the psyche and spirit, it has empowered and awakened me to my own unique wholeness.

If you are tired of workshops, seminars, books, and counseling that just doesn’t contain all the pieces to bring it all together, then you need to consider this wonderful alternative.

It took me two days to discover how to collapse the “holes” that I fall into, and to come back “whole”.

Alaya’s map is “The Hands and Feet” of empowerment.

Find out more about these incredible workshops at www.sanctuarynh.com.

The healing power of animals

Logan

Logan

Here at Avalon one of our favorite staff members is Logan, our resident mascot, protector of the grounds and all around Captain Awesome.  Did we mention that he’s a four-legged companion of the coolest kind?

Our self-proclaimed therapy dog Logan – we give him unofficial designation because he is not a certified service dog (for a great organization that is doing incredible work in this area visit NEADS) but he is a favorite among our clients and has amazing people skills.

Logan is a 4-year old Toy Pomeranian with three years of experience in developing therapeutic techniques for relaxation and client smiles. Trained in client greetings and knowing when to give love, he has been described as both cute and intuitive.

Our sweet Logan knows how to shower you with love and is happy to give it.  He is our daily reminder that we’re not alone on Earth and that by creating mutually beneficial partnerships with animals we are all the more content and happy.

Logan is our lifeline to the animal kingdom.   He also has the honor of being #1 in the staff rankings for most decorative bandanas and fastest time to deflate beach balls.

Come visit us and spend a little time on the grounds with Logan.
